Posada dona lupe – Hostel just in front of Alhambra

12 November 2009 2 Comments

Fourteen of us were on our “Tour d’Espana” by car and none of us was cultivated enough to realize that Granada is famous for Alhambra and it is a must place to go. I decided before the trip we would just stop for a night in Granada for sleep without visiting and nobody seemed to refuse.

It was the friendly lady,  still with courage waiting for our arrival at midnight, that questioned us “What the hell are you doing in Granada without visiting Alhambra.” After debating for almost 15 minutes, she finally managed to convince us to visit Alhambra, which is just few steps away from the hostel. Thanks to her suggestion, we had the best day in Alhambra the next day.

This kind of service is what I expected during a trip. Being a backpacker, sometimes there were few points that I missed while planning my trip. It is hard to find a hostel worker that suggested us what to do during our visit. She even gave us tips on how to get the tickets to Alhambra, what could we do to kill our time while waiting for our time of visit and she proposed us to keep a room to store our luggage for half of the day.

And the hostel was superb for its price. Maybe because being too tired from driving, my sleep was disturbless. Pity to some of us who had to wake up early to get the Alhambra tickets. That is what you deserved if you slept the whole journey during the road trip while others busy keeping the driver awake.

A cup of coffee and some biscuits were offered to freshly start our day by the housekeeper. But we kind of had a miscommunication with the housekeeper. The night before, we had an electricity problem in one of the room. It was hard for us to explain our problem to him, who speak no english at all. The only thing he responded to, is “cafe manana.” (which means coffee in the morning.”

Last year few friends from Egypt did their own backpacking to Granada and I suggested this hostel to them. They told me that the lady there excitedly told them about “14 Malaysian travelers who arrived late at night.” It was touching for me that they still had a memory of us. The way they treated their visitor, not as clients, but more as friends is the reason why I strongly recommended this hostel for those who want to visit Granada. You won’t regret it when you find out how near it is to Alhambra.
