Interrail tips: The train planning website

It is almost an essential tool for those who are planning to use the Interrail or EUrail to go around Europe. The bahn.de website provides all the information neccesary to plan your trip on train around Europe.

We simply need to put our city of departure and arrival on the website, the date and time of the journey and the website will find the way for you to move to your destination city, as long as it is in Europe.

And to see how impressive it is, just try and search a …

One reason why we hate Budapest

We already spent almost 3 days in Budapest. We had an extra ticket from the day before, so we decided to take a metro from our appartment in Opera to the train station.

From Opera to Keleti Train Station, we took a metro and we need to change at one of the stations. As the user of Paris and London metro system, we just changed the metro normally without paying any particular attention, and that’s when all the problem started.

We arrived at Keleti Train station few minutes later. Surprisingly, waiting us …

The best view of Riga

You don’t need to pay an expensive entrance fee to go up on Riga church to have the nicest view of the city. What I did when I was there was to head myself to Reval hotel, where there you can have the best view of the  city, for free!

On the top of the hotel, on the 26th floor, lies Skyline Bar. From the window of this bar, I managed to have a nice view of the old town.

In order to have a seat next to the window however, one …

Sleeping in Prestwick

I’ve started my summer travel by having a sleepover in Prestwick, Glasgow low-coast airport which is situated 46km from the city. I arrived there around 11 p.m. from Paris Beauvais and my flight to also departed the next day around 7 a.m.

Few reasons why I decided to sleep in the airport. First of all, of course it would be cheaper to stay in the airport rather than staying in the hostel. In addition, there is no cheap hostel available around prestwick and you need to go to Glasgow in order …

Sleeping in Heathrow

Indianboy: We’re taking an early flight from Heathrow to India? Can we just sleep at the airport? Have you tried it and what do you think of it?

I’ve slept in Heathrow twice. Last year when I took the Air India flight to Malaysia and last two years, Royal Brunei flight to KL too. Both of these flights left early in the morning so I had no choice rather than sleeping in the airport.

Each year it is almost the same. I had my dinner at Bonda or Malaysian Hall, bought some …

Souvenir stamp at Charlie Checkpoint

Too bad that there is no more border patrol between the European countries. It would be nice to have country stamps all over your passport. And believe me, if I need to pay for it, I would, as a souvenir of where I’ve been!

Being in Berlin would be incomplete without visiting Charlie Checkpoint. During the Cold War period, this place was the crossing point between Eastern Germany and Western Germany. It is here where one stood the Berlin Wall. Today, the checkpoint is commemorated by a border sign and a …

No need to share the road with bicycles and tram!

I remembered driving with my friend Shaz in Brussels. He thought that the road belonged only to the cars. Then without looking to the right, he entered the roundabout when suddenly a Tram  came out of nowhere and almost hit his car!

That’s the way it is in Europe. And in Amsterdam, it is even worse! You have to share the road with the tram, the pedestrian and the bicycles. And it will be also hard to find a parking in the city, and when you find one, you might have …

Seeing Athens on bus

I bet just as you arrive in a city, you will take a daily metro ticket, and go around the city with the public transport. Few of us would take the “red” sightseeing bus, as it is rather targeted to the “classy” tourist than for backpackers.

But in Athens, there is a bus service, called the 400 line bus, that will take you around the touristic area for a price as cheap as 5€ (the daily public transport ticket costs 2.90€).

Not only you will be able to use the sightseeing bus …

Tourist trap at sacré coeur

Montmartre is without a doubt my favourite place in Paris, especially on summer. I usually set myself in front of sacré coeur, waiting for the sunset while listening to the seat performer, chanting songs, including my favourite song, “No woman no cry.”

Why not visit there and relax yourself there. You can have one of the best view of Paris from the top. But just as you descend the stairs, heading to the metro station. Just beware! There are a group of people waiting for tourist to take them into …
